| Hiding your identity is basically dishonest in my view. I should not be afraid to identify myself when I say something or ask a question. If I come under ridicule for stating an opinion or asking a question then maybe I am in the wrong place and should not participate. |

having this option will only cause trouble. More spam, rude comments, and etc. People should register and have their background checked before being able to post. |

| No, this should not be allowed. If you are trustworthy you will have nothing to hide. Plain and simple. |

I consider anonymous 'anything' is wrong. It should be discouraged. It compares to 'Hit & run' behaviour. |

| No, anonymous posting should be turned off, and there should be some sort of captcha or something used to ensure actual people are registering and not bots. It gets tiresome to be looking for useful and informative threads on here and have to sort through the "Buy Cheap V!AGRA" or "Free Movie Downloads!!!11" threads. |

I agree about not being anonymous (although I'm logged in as a guest) I think this should be a place for real Q&A... I posted something in a previous thread and it was deleted. The way I see it is if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. These forms should be for regestered users (which I do belong to Thomas and I advertise through Thomas also)
My Guess is you don't like when I say your Forums are DEAD!!! and you give us no incentive to post a reply.
So your answer is to Delete my post. (Criticism is your best friend)
Let people in the forms answer don't just ignore the facts even if you don't like them. I say Fredom of speech but under the assumption that your not anonymous. Putting the code at the bottom of the post is also a good idea as to stop spamers. Checking into my personal life=bad idea not that I have anything to hide but why would I give you personal information just to beable to post on the forums? Make it a quick simple assign "yourself" A user name and a Valid E-mail to be able to post, This should be good enough. Just please remeber if you want to keep these fourms active then Criticism is your best friend. |

Two sides of the argument:
Yes:
Lots of posters don’t want to have to REGISTER. If somebody has a simple question, like where can I buy recycled polypropylene scrap, why not allow them to post the question, or reply to such a question? It is a proven statistic that you loose lots of good posters if they can not post as a guest.
No:
This option lets tons of spam to land on your message boards. It gives a very bad taste to your readers.
To discuss this in a little bit more detail, this is a very common issue for owners of public message boards.
First of all, there MUST be a good SPAM PROTECTION tool in place. Even if you only allow registered users to post, there are tons of very sophisticated spam bots that will register on your site. Some message boards not go a step forward and require register users to “ACTIVATE” their registration by clicking on a link in their email send by the message board. Guess what? The spam bots can do this too.
So if you have in place a VERY GOOD image verification software for EVERY post, it will help for this problem (automated spam). It will still not help for HUMAN spammers. So a good message board needs A COUPLE of spam protection tools in place, including the ability to ban the IP address of serious offenders. |

…more on my previous post:
You can even do it like this:
You are a GUEST, then the moderator must APPROVE your message before it goes live. (This is a build in feature in a lot of message boards, and if I’m correct, it is a standard feature no on phpBB, not a mode.)
You are a REGISTERED USER, then your post go live right away, but you know that if you spam the system, you will get a warning and if you are a serious offender, your IP will be blocked completely from posting. |

...Yet even more on this topic.... There should be a button "Report Abuse" or similar just like you see the button "Quote". This is also a built in feature in phpBB.
Like this, when readers see spam postings they can let the moderator know. |

Brand new here. My name is Ron. First post. I found my manufacturers through ThomasNet so I should like this place.
There is no reason anonymous posting, yes it will increase spam. More and more forums seem to be allowing you to post who and what you do which is working out very well.
I like to see who the person is behind the mouth which gives more respect (or less) to the comments. Also, this forum I know can be just amazing for networking if everyone knows each other. More info on people, not less.
I am here to learn and network as I have more products to have manufactured. Have a great day!

| I thought the idea here was to share information. If that is indeed the case, who cares if there is a name attached? This isn't the newspaper where you will get sniping. It's a professional blog site to exchange information and ideas. It's quite possible that there are members who aren't using their real names - so what's the difference? Let it go and use whatever information you can from whatever the source. |
